The July sales of Utility vehicle were dropped near about 10 % year on year as compared to the 6 % drop in overall volumes. The big surprise in this sales drop was the sharp UV sales drop at Renault whose leading compact SUV Duster just sold out 3,100 units in July i.e. just 31 % drop as compared to the sales of June which was 4,500 units. This was the third straight month when Duster sales fell month on month in car comparison with other cars in this fiscal year.
Previously, Duster’s sales dropped 12 % in the month of June from the 5, 146 units in the month of May and then there were flat down of 4 % in the month of May from 5,362 units in the month of April. Kapil Singh and Nishit Jalan who are the Nomura analysts is expecting the further decline of Duster over the next few months because of the competition and comparison between cars from Ford’s which is newly launched compact SUV EcoSport.
The analysts from Nomura also confirmed that due to high bookings, Eco Sport’s volumes remained strong. Last month Ford India said that Eco Sport had received 30,000 bookings within 17 days of its launch in car comparison with other cars.
Because of the large difference in price points it will be unfair to compare Eco Sport and Duster. Eco Sport is also a compact SUV just like Duster and its price tag is Rs. 5.59 lakhs.
